Posted By Diego | Other News | August 1, 2011, 02:11 AM |
Dating back to the 12th and 13 centuries in Egypt, evidence that cards may have existed that may have been used to play a game of Poker. Pieces of these cards can be linked to a card game that was played in the early 16th century, at the time this game was called Treasure Cards an eastern derivation of Ganjifa.
There are 96 painted cards that are in the Ganjifa deck; a five player Persian game called Nas is known to have been inspired from Ganjifa, which, during the 17th century was a card game. Nas is the game that closest resembles the poker style of today. There are single rounds of hand ranking and belting in the game of Nas.
